Women’s Singing and Drumming Circle with Sheri Owen
Come join us as we learn the different components of a song and sing and drum together.
Last month at my sound yoga class, I sang the song The Rose. One of the lyrics of that song is “and you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong”. That got me thinking about singing and that we have always been told that singing is for the lucky and the strong, the talented and fearless….When in truth, it is for us all. We can all sing. We just sound different.
Singing is basic. We all resonate. Our bodies are made to resonate. Singing is freeing.
If you aren’t up to singing, but would like to drum, please come. Being in community and rhythm is the goal here.
I first heard of a women’s singing circle from the singer Olivia Fern. When she announced her most recent tour, she decided that she was going to host women’s singing circles at each stop along the way. She recorded a song with one of those groups of women and released it on International Women’s day this year. That is the song we will be singing.
I thought this was a newer idea, but apparently there are singing circles all over the world and they have been happening for a long time. There are even some other circles in our local area.
So if you would like to come raise your voice or bang a drum in fellowship as we learn this song, come on down to Be the Change on Sunday, May 26 from 12:00 to 1:00. $15 per person.
I have been singing most of my life, but this is a very new experience for me, so I ask for grace as we go along. Please bring a drum if you have one. After you rsvp, we will send a YouTube video of the song so you can familiarize yourself with it.
Additional thoughts…
We will be sitting on the floor in a circle, so if you need something to feel comfortable, please bring it along.
Immediately following this event is the weekly Soulful Sounds Sunday, an hour long sound healing event. Please rsvp to each event separately if you would like to attend both.
