Prenatal pilates is a bit more than gentle movement and does incorporate some squats and lunges though we begin class with foundational breathing exercises which can be translated to any form of exercise outside of class! Deep breathing, stretching and strengthening is the goal of this class while Emily also adds in some childbirth education, and you are able to connect with other mommas-to-be in your community! Why pilates for pregnancy? Aside from a fun workout you will achieve better breathing, posture, pelvic floor health and a safe, effective way to work your core during the prenatal period. What to bring:
Aside from your beautiful self please bring water, and a birth ball if you have one! Yoga mats are available though you can always bring your own. Like yoga, we are often barefoot in class or you may wear pilates socks! Please come in comfortable clothing for exercise and let us know of any limitations or injuries we should work around when you sign up!
About the facilitator:
Emily Encinosa just relocated from Las Vegas back to her hometown of Arnold, Maryland! During her time in Las Vegas she became a home birth midwife and birth doula that has been supporting pregnant bodies in movement since 2016 with prenatal and postpartum pilates as well as specializing in Diastasis Recti recovery. Emily got started in the fitness industry in 2011 while living in NYC. Her passion for supporting women in mind, body, and spirit has only continued to grow over the years as she established her path in the birth world of Las Vegas in 2017. Completing her midwifery apprenticeship in December 2021 has been her greatest achievement next to welcoming her son, Max during 2020 while she was in the middle of her active apprenticeship and global pandemic. Come experience her wisdom and connect with your breath, baby, and pelvic floor in a challenging 50 minute class perfect for any stage of pregnancy.
